The journey takes approximately 1 hour, during which you will see beautiful views of the local countryside and small villages that you will pass through along the way. You can learn a lot of interesting facts about the history, life, and culture of the Czech Republic from the local driver.

Upon arrival, your driver will explain where to go, what not to miss, and advise you on where to eat well (in case you don't have a private guide) and arrange a meeting point for the return journey. The castle is located right next to the parking lot (about 200m away), where there is also a local refreshment stand. Křivoklat has 3 basic tours with different lengths and 1 quick tour around the castle walls - it is essential to make sure that the tour you choose is available in the given season and whether online reservation is required. We always recommend purchasing tickets online due to high attendance. During your visit to the castle, you will have some time for refreshments.

Afterward, you will meet up with your driver and head back home.

Trip description

Location information
Křivoklát Castle is one of the oldest and most significant castles in the Czech Republic. Its history dates back to the 12th century, when it was built on the site of a fortified settlement.

The castle was founded by Přemysl Otakar II in 1253 and served primarily as protection for the royal road from Prague to the west. In the 14th century, the castle was rebuilt into a Gothic fortress and underwent several further modifications and alterations over the following centuries.

In 1421, the castle was captured by the Hussites, who rebuilt and expanded it several times. After the Hussite Wars, Křivoklát was rebuilt again and served as the seat of King Vladislav II and his successors. In the 16th century, the castle was used as a prison for nobles who had committed criminal offenses.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, Křivoklát was several times reconstructed and adapted to the fashion trends of the time. In 1826, the castle was severely damaged by fire and subsequently reconstructed.

In 1948, Křivoklát Castle was annexed to the National Heritage Institute and is now one of the most important tourist attractions in the Czech Republic. It includes an exhibition of weapons, hunting trophies, a library, a chapel, and other historical treasures.
